Event review - WSBK Hungary 2025

The 1000th Superbike race!! The 1st race in Balaton Park, Hungary. Wow!

We came to the first international race at the new Balaton Park circuit expecting teething problems (or worse!). We have never been so happy to be wrong!

As a pilot, we played this event low-key. Our small group however was privileged to be at the inaugural event - and no one was disappointed!

Our base was in the lovely tourist town of Siofok, about a 20 minute drive to the track. A delightful lakeside resort, this was the height of the season so there was a real buzz in the centre. Our boutique hotel, the Janus, proved a great home, with uniquely decorated and well appointed rooms and a superb small spa with pool, gym, sauna, steam room and treatment rooms.

Thursday our founder and manager Gordon obtained a workers pass and visited the track to walk through all the facilities. Apart from poor signage approaching the circuit and parking, we found the track and facilities in perfect condition and ready to go! All team members we spoke to at the track were also impressed. The quality was confirmed when they announced a 10 year deal for the SBK event!

We also visited the new Balaton Park Hotel - right at the track. It was sensational! Look forward to basing guests there at future events.

Thursday we enjoyed a welcome drink then dinner at the local Italian restaurant -- there are a lot of Italian restaurants in this town!

Friday was the first day of action on this new track! Our Bimota guests got a rare privilege of a walk around the service road to see the Superbike session! We met the legend Roger Burnett on the track, looking after his new protegee Ryan Vickers. Some ducks managed to steal the show from Toprak!

We caught up with other friends in the paddock. One was New Zealander Avalon Lewis (nee Biddle) -- a rider we used to sponsor 9+ years ago in the woman's cup in SBK! 9 years later she has married to fellow racer Jake Lewis (NZ Supersport champion in 2024) and their 20 month boy Nash -- a budding mechanic!

We also introduced BluCru R3 Cup racer Chris Clark from the USA. We are impressed that he is running 2nd in the tournament in his rookie year!

Friday night it was a different (and delicious!) Italian restaurant and a sampling of the local beers -- including a hit with some guests of a cherry ale! :-)

The racing through the week was superb. Bimota riders - notably Axel Bassani - were having some issues with the tight, twisty track. And then went on to post top 10 finishes in both main races Tyre choice dictated the Superpole race, and Axel got it right and scored an impressive 6th after starting around 17th... Alex unfortunately didn't get it correct and missed points in the Superpole race.

In the super competitive Women's WCR league, our friend Avalon scored two top 10 finishes, unfortunately missing the podium (even after a stint leading the second race!). A British hero is arising in the form of Chloe Jones who took the podium in both races!

The open podium and paddock show are some of the top features of SBK. For our first-time SBK visitors, the level of access is amazing! In the new Garage hospitality there is the opportunity to visit the terrace above parc ferme for some of the podiums - -which is why we have such great shots from Supersport and WCR races! Some lucky guests also had the privilege of joining the Superbike race START GRID!

We finished the weekend with dinner at the lovely lakeshore, everyone vowing to return for either SBK or MotoGP !

Balaton: 5* !!
